I have a strong belief in magic – magic as an intervention that can influence the course of events – in spells and rituals as old as humanity itself and found all over the world.
Magic is intrinsic to human nature. Clearly, we as humans have a deep need for it.
At certain moments in the past, I buried images of myself along with texts resembling prayers into the earth. I did this in forty-five different places, from the Park Abbey to the Meerdaal Forest, and farther from home, from the Kalmthout Heath to the High Fens.
These magical rituals have had a profound impact on my life – far more than those around me could have imagined. Many of the works I created afterwards are deeply connected to them.
